KIHEFO promotes local initiated solutions to fight disease, ignorance and poverty in southwestern Uganda

IMPORTANCE OF VOLUNTEERING:

Did you know that our volunteer work might be more precious than our routine job? The majority of us wish to assist those less privileged. We don’t volunteer, for the large part, since it rewards us. We offer because it makes a big difference. However there is a whole load of advantages at volunteering. Were you aware that, when you volunteer, you are improving your own life and possibly even your health? Here are reasons why you and I should try out volunteering;

  1. Helps in building community:

There are so many people whose lives you will touch when you work in those KIHEFO mobile clinics in the rural areas of Kigezi and Arua. Even when you donate to the rabbits scheme (bunnies)/, many families will be raised from the poverty and malnutrition that has been consuming their lives up.

  • Ends loneliness;

Many people around the world acknowledge to feeling alone. With billions of people as the earth’s population, volunteering in activities such as the mobile clinics at KIHEFO will open your life to new friends, families and activities that will end your loneliness.

  • Helps in building bonds and creating friends;

With the opportunity of working alongside the KIHEFO staff and community leaders in Kigezi and West Nile, you can’t probably imagine the number of friends you can possibly make and what in the end these bonds built will yield. And with the impact your actions will have on the community, who knows the number of community members you will link up with.

  • Improves self-esteem;

Many people are struggling with a thought that they won’t always amount to anything that can have a great impact on this world. Well they need to try out volunteering for with what they see as small actions such as working at a KIHEFO mobile clinic can impact people’s lives especially the vulnerable communities in rural areas of Uganda who do not access medical care. Participating in the fight to fight malnutrition through the KIHEFO scheme can make you realize that you have a great impact. Volunteering can be life changing.

  • Helps in improving college and school experience;

Taking part in activities at KIHEFO such as being part of mobile clinics, nutrition schemes, the collaboration with traditional medicine practitioners and learning how disease and ignorance is fought by the help of rabbits provides a whole load of experience that you won’t find anywhere around the world. The knowledge gathered here puts you well ahead of others in the knowledge gap about community health in Uganda. This will boost your job hunt post-graduation.

  • Enrichment;

There is nothing more satisfying than understanding just how much of an effect a volunteer could create. Volunteers working collectively to participate in the KIHEFO fight against poverty, disease and ignorance complex can pay a visit later to the KIHEFO website and physical sites to see the way the job has improved in the rural communities.

  • Learning;

Volunteering in any activity around the world allows you to attempt new tasks or learn new abilities. By way of instance, once an a person participates in the KIHEFO mobile clinics, they will walk away with knowledge on how malnutrition is fought by use of Soya porridge, preparing of the Soya porridge and its subsequent administration.

With the stated advantages, and so many others that can be found out by the interaction with people that have the volunteering experience, why wouldn’t you jump on the chance to volunteer at KIHEFO or have a study internship?

The writer is a final year student pursuing diploma in clinical medicine and community health volunteering at KIHEFO – Uganda.
